CEREC (CAD/CAM)

CEREC stands for Ceramic Reconstruction and is a system used to create dental prosthetics, especially dental crowns that are more conservative than traditional treatments. It uses computer-aided design and manufacturing to produce dental prosthetics in a single office visit.

At Maitland Dental Care, we provide same-day crowns and veneers. Because they’re custom-milled by a computer, there’s no need for dental impressions—saving time and possible discomfort.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry is an area of dentistry that focuses on improving the appearance of teeth. This may include procedures such as teeth whitening, veneers and contouring.

  • Is it good to whiten your teeth?

Teeth whitening products have been used professionally for more than 10 years, and in that time, there has been no evidence to suggest they cause damage to the tooth.

However, teeth whitening is not suitable for everyone. It can cause tooth sensitivity, so it’s important to consult your dentist before undergoing any cosmetic treatments. You can use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth to minimise this risk.

  • What is teeth whitening?

There are a few different ways to achieve teeth whitening, including at-home treatments and professional treatments. At-home treatments typically involve using a whitening kit that contains bleaching gel and a custom fit bleaching tray. Professional treatments usually involve using a stronger bleaching gel and may be performed in a dental office.

  • How long do porcelain veneers last?

Like anything, veneers will not last forever and they will require ongoing maintenance to prevent premature failure. Of the two types of veneers; porcelain will last longer than composite veneers

  • What’s the difference between cosmetic and restorative dentistry?

The main difference between cosmetic and restorative dentistry is that restorative dentistry involves repairing damaged teeth and is vital to have completed before considering cosmetic dentistry. As its name suggests, cosmetic dentistry includes treatments that are aimed to improve the appearance of teeth, such as masking stains or defects with something like a veneer. At the end of the day, the choice of whether to seek out cosmetic or restorative dentistry is really up to you and your dentist.
